Valves are devices used in fluid systems to control the direction, pressure, and flow rate of fluids. They are devices that enable the flow or cessation of media (liquids, gases, powders) in piping and equipment, and can control their flow rate.

According to their functions and purposes, they can be divided into gate valves, globe valves, ball valves, butterfly valves, and check valves.

Gate valves can be divided into open stem and concealed stem, single gate and double gate, wedge gate and parallel gate, etc. The tightness of the gate valve is poor, and it is difficult to open large-diameter gate valves; The valve body size is small along the direction of water flow, resulting in low flow resistance, and the gate valve has a large nominal diameter span.

Globe valves are divided into three types according to the flow direction of the medium: straight through, right angle, and direct flow, with visible and hidden stems. The closing tightness of globe valves is better than that of gate valves, with a longer valve body, greater flow resistance, and a maximum nominal diameter of DN200.

The valve core of the ball valve is an open ball. When the valve stem is moved to align the opening of the ball with the axis of the pipeline, it is fully open, and when turned 90 °, it is fully closed. Ball valves have certain regulating performance and close tightly.

The valve core of the butterfly valve is a circular valve plate, which can rotate along the vertical axis of the pipeline. When the plane of the valve plate is aligned with the axis of the pipe, it is fully open; When the gate plane is perpendicular to the axis of the pipe, it is fully closed. Butterfly valves have a small valve body length and low flow resistance, making them more expensive than gate valves and globe valves.

The check valve refers to a type of valve whose opening and closing components are circular valve discs that act by their own weight and medium pressure to block medium backflow.

The function of check valves is to allow the medium to flow only in one direction and prevent the flow in the opposite direction. Usually, this type of valve works automatically, and under the pressure of fluid flowing in one direction, the valve disc opens; When the fluid flows in the opposite direction, the pressure of the fluid and the self weight of the valve disc act on the valve seat, thereby cutting off the flow.
