Oil well control equipment is the core system that ensures the safety of drilling operations. Its main function is to monitor, prevent, and control abnormal pressure in the well (especially blowout accidents), ensuring the safety and controllability of the drilling process. The specific functions can be divided into the following key aspects:

  1、 Core functions

  pressure control

Maintain the balance between the liquid column pressure in the wellbore and the formation pressure to prevent uncontrolled influx of formation fluids (oil, gas, water) into the wellbore.

When the pressure inside the well rises abnormally, the wellhead can be quickly closed and a well killing operation can be carried out.

  2. Emergency sealing

When signs of overflow (well kick) or blowout are detected, quickly close the wellhead through the blowout preventer group and isolate the high-pressure fluid inside the well.

  Fluid circulation control

By regulating the pressure inside the well through throttling and killing manifolds, harmful fluids that invade are circulated to restore pressure balance.

  Monitoring and early warning

Real time monitoring of wellhead pressure, drilling fluid flow rate, pool volume, and other parameters to promptly detect anomalies such as overflow and wellbore leakage.

  II Safety significance

  Preventing catastrophic accidents

Out of control blowouts can lead to fires, explosions, and environmental pollution (such as the Gulf of Mexico oil spill), and well control equipment is the last physical barrier.

  Protecting personnel and equipment

Avoid injuries and equipment damage caused by high-pressure fluid jets or drilling tools rushing out of the wellhead.

  Compliant with regulatory requirements

Global drilling operations require mandatory installation of well control equipment and regular testing (such as pressure testing of blowout preventers and control system drills).

  Ensuring resources and environment

Controlling blowouts can prevent the waste of oil and gas resources and ecological disasters, especially in offshore drilling.
