When using a butterfly valve for flow control, it is crucial to select the correct specifications and type for proper and effective operation. Generally, butterfly valves are recommended for throttling, regulating, and slurry applications requiring short length, fast opening and closing speeds, and low-pressure cutoff (small differential pressure). Butterfly valves are also suitable for two-position regulation, reduced-diameter passages, low noise levels, cavitation and vaporization, minimal atmospheric leakage, and abrasive media. They are also suitable for throttling under special operating conditions, or for applications requiring strict sealing, severe wear, or low temperatures (cryogenics).
